Artifacts for June 1, 2021

What’s new(s) in the AE format world: delays all around, a welcome discount, and a table of contents.

Wayne Alan Harold provided an update via Indiegogo for P. Craig Russell’s Symbolist Fantasies Fine Art Edition.

I’m happy to report that a newly-vaccinated P. Craig Russell was finally able to travel to the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum in Columbus to “borrow” his original art for this significant piece (the Pelléas art is currently on deposit there along with a substantial amount of Craig’s other originals). I’m starting in on the scanning as we speak.

Work on this ambitious Fine Art Edition pretty much stalled out during the “COVID” year, but at least now we’re finally able to gather the original art, get it scanned, and finally sit down to design this thing.

Normally we would be in a rush to get the book done and out to the printer, but with the current shipping cluster-“you-know-what” overseas, we’re going to spend the next few months reworking the book with a fresh eye—making improvements and adding things for the better—with a goal of getting it shipped out to backers this fall. And fingers crossed that the shipping situation will improve by then.

Jaynelle Rude gave some more information regarding Nexus: The Coming of Gourmando Deluxe.

We looked into every possible option for the books and in the end the only affordable option was to have the books shipped here then ship them out.  That cost is $5,000 + taxes/duties.  It would be approximately $80 per book to have even a small portion of them air shipped here or approximately $21,000 (yes, twenty one thousand dollars) to get the presale orders here early.

While this situation is directly due to COVID 19 and out of our control we realize that it is still frustrating.  We will keep you updated on shipment progress as we hear about it.  Currently, our forwarder is searching for space for our 7 pallets on a cargo ship.  Once the space is reserved we will have another update.

Earlier this year I reviewed The Art of The Avengers and Other Heroes Exhibition Catalog and Tales From The Crypt: The Revolutionary Art of MAD and EC Comics Exhibition Catalog from the Society of Illustrators. If you followed the link in the review you discovered these books are on deep discount for $10 each. That helps ease most of my concerns for the volumes.

John Buscema’s Marvel Heroes Artist’s Edition is on schedule for an October 12/13 release. IDW offered retailers a PDF sneak peek and the book looks amazing. Here is the table of contents.
