IDW January 2024 Solicitations

The days of a single neat and tidy solicitation for all publishers are gone. Individual publishers’ listings will be posted on a monthly basis as I discover them, either from their websites or catalogues.

I waited again this month as one solicit doesn’t have a cover image, which is disappointing.

Paul Smith’s Uncanny X-Men Artist’s Edition

A veritable cornucopia of classic Paul Smith original X-Men art has been scanned at high resolution in color—although the art appears to be in black and white, all Artist’s Editions are shot in color so all the subtle nuances are clearly visible to the reader—and printed at 100 percent size as drawn, a massive 12 × 17 inches. The only better way to see Paul Smith’s original art would be to hold it in your own hands.

Wally Woods EC Stories Artists Edition New Printing cover

Wally Wood’s EC Stories Artist’s Edition (expanded)

Wally Wood is the comic art equivalent of Paul McCartney or Elvis, one of the true all-time greats. From his brilliant work at EC Comics, Mad Comics and Magazine, to Thunder Agents and his classic early Marvel Daredevil stories, he is firmly entrenched on the Mt. Rushmore of comic artists!

Focuses on one of the all-time greatest comic book artists at the absolute peak of his creative powers: Wally Wood. EC Comics was quite likely the finest comics line ever produced, and Wood, as one of its mainstays, set an incredibly high artistic standard. This volume contains a wonderful selection of stories in original art form by Wood, including My World, Came the Dawn, Mars Is Heaven, He Walked among Us, and more. Additionally, there is a fantastic gallery section of covers by Wood. If you’ve never seen Wood original art, you’ve never seen Wally Wood!

Hopefully there is a cover image soon for Wally Wood’s EC Stories Artist’s Edition. I added expanded in parentheses because this has been solicited as 160 pages, seven more pages than the original. There is also talk of two to three additional Wood stories, but we’ll have to wait to firm that up.
