Diamond released their July 2018 sales numbers over the weekend and Comichron has extrapolated those and determined actual unit sales. These numbers are for Diamond’s direct sales in North America only and don’t include Diamond UK or the bookstore market. It’s worth reading the additional information under the sales charts.
For the purposes of the AE Index, where we record initial sales month, two Artist Edition style books were published in July 2018 and made the sales chart. Both Dark Horse and Titan garner a significant portion of their sales through online retailers who do not purchase through Diamond.

Diamond sales will never accurately represent or report the Artist’s Edition format market because it’s too small of a data pool. We won’t know more until publishers are willing to share their sales data.
