May 2020 Solicitations

Diamond has updated Previewsworld with the March 2020 catalogue, for items shipping May 2020 or later. Scouring the full list this month shows one new Artist’s Edition format book and one I’m not so sure about. It’s been one month since the last AE solicitation.

Michael Golden’s Micronauts Artist’s Edition

Michael Golden is regarded as one of the masters of comic art, and his long-out-of-print Micronauts is regarded as the “holy grail” among his many legions of fans. Now, through special arrangement with Marvel Comics and Hasbro, IDW is proud to present Golden’s Micronauts work in the multi-Eisner Award-winning Artist’s Edition format.
An Artist’s Edition showcases comic book original art in its most natural state, allowing the reader the opportunity to not only look at beautiful pages, but to also read the stories as well. It is the perfect opportunity for the true connoisseur of the form to experience art as never before. Each page has been meticulously scanned from the original art (in color, to show all the subtle nuances-blue pencil, white-out, staining-that make original art unique) and is presented at the same size they were drawn.

This gorgeous edition, prepared with the full cooperation of Michael Golden, will feature complete issues from Micronauts #7, #9, #11, and #12 (and possibly another!). Additionally, more pages be printed, something from EVERY issue, plus an incredible gallery section of covers and rare and images–No Michael Golden fan can afford to miss this book!

Michael Goldens Micronauts Artists Edition Previews

The digital solicitation lists four issues and possibly another while the print solicitation lists six issues.

Two points to note about this solicitation. First, it’s scheduled to ship a month before last month’s EC Covers Artist’s Edition. Add that to the list of included material, which lists out issue numbers, and I’d say the book is ready for printing and could actually ship on time. Second, the price of $150 is an increase of the 12″ x 17″ standard of $125 that IDW has followed for several years.

There was a second book solicited with “Artist’s Edition” in the title, but as previously discussed publishers are using that categorization quite loosely. Blade Runner 2019 Vol. 1: Los Angeles Artist’s Edition is a 128 page hardcover for $29.99. No dimensions listed on Diamond or from Titan’s solicitation. It looks like DC’s Unwrapped series, printing cleaned up pencils.
