March 2024 Crowdfunding

The days of a single neat and tidy solicitation for all publishers are gone. Individual publishers’ listings will be posted on a monthly basis as I discover them, either from their websites or catalogues. As well crowdfunding provides an opportunity for smaller publishers.

Extremity Signature Edition cover

Extremity: Signature Edition

The EXTREMITY: SIGNATURE EDITION collects the art of all 12 issues of Daniel Warren Johnson’s masterwork EXTREMITY and presents them in a stunning new format at the same size as originally drawn.

Extremity: Signature Edition is a gorgeous 12”x17”, 320-page hardcover collecting all 12 issues of Extremity and reprints Johnson’s art at their original board size.

This premium hardcover is clothbound with a foil-stamped cover and a beautiful silkscreen spine. Each page of art has been scanned and printed in color, rather than traditional greyscale, to demonstrate the subtle nuances that make the original art so unique and powerful. There is no lettering in this edition.

From the FAQ:

Will a version of the EXTREMITY: SIGNATURE EDITION be released in comic shops, bookstores or made available online?

The EXTREMITY: SIGNATURE EDITION will only be made available through this Kickstarter campaign, though your local comic shop or book store may choose to purchase copies through this campaign. Do not miss out!

Does “Signature Edition” mean my book will be signed?

“Signature Edition” is a new hardcover format that denotes showcasing art at the original board size.

However, that does NOT include a signature or autograph” by the artist, though there may be select tiers of a campaign with that option.

This has all the hallmarks of a high-end book, clothbound and foil stamped. I would prefer lettering, but that’s not going to happen with modern comic art.

I can’t tell if that’s a belly band being included with the book, or that’s just for the marketing. I would prefer it not be part of the book, since it gets ripped and you don’t know where to put it other than folding it and sticking it in the book.

Shipping is high, even for U.S. shipping which should be covered by media mail. It’s cheaper to ship to U.K. and Europe than Canada, so something seems off, unless they’re also mailing from Europe.
